Getting ready for the ALA's Youth Media Awards

Students in 5th explored, perused, and observed various Sibert Medal Award winners and honor books. The Sibert Medal is given each year to the most distinguished informational book for children. The students had time at each table to observe the books, to notice, to wonder what all these books might have in common. Many students noticed that they were all nonfiction or informational books by using their call numbers. Others observed some of the books had medals on the covers. It was fascinating to hear their conversations as they took time to browse through books...award winning books!
