
One of my FAVORITE books is This is Just to Say: Poems of Apologies and Forgiveness by Joyce Sidman. The fifth graders read this book in library last year and we revisited it today in honor of Poetry Month. We have been plugging away at Bigger than a Bread Box by Laurel Snyder. So how do Bigger than a Bread Box and This is Just to Say go together? Each student chose two characters and wrote a poem of apology as that character to the other chosen character. Then we switched apologies and wrote responses as those characters. Here's a little sampling:
