Poems of Apology

One of my FAVORITE books is This is Just to Say: Poems of Apologies and Forgiveness by Joyce Sidman.  The fifth graders read this book in library last year and we revisited it today in honor of Poetry Month. We have been plugging away at Bigger than a Bread Box by Laurel Snyder. So how do Bigger than a Bread Box and This is Just to Say go together? Each student chose two characters and wrote a poem of apology as that character to the other chosen character. Then we switched apologies and wrote responses as those characters. April = Poetry Love

We enjoyed the fabulous reversible poems in Marilyn Singer's Mirror Mirror. Inspired by the intricate art done by Josee Massee, we created our own art where we drew another part of a scene.

April is National Poetry Month

Join us in celebrating National Poetry Month this April. Fourth graders picked out some of their favorite poems to share. They also made pockets to hold those poems. So be on the lookout for a poem in a pocket around the school and take some time to enjoy a good poem!

Battle of the Books...Tonight!

This is what we have been waiting for! The annual Battle of the Books is tonight! Four teams from Georgetown Central School will compete in this year's Battle. Our battlers have read as many books as they can from the Maine Student Book Award nominees and now it is time to see all that book knowledge! This is definitely one of my most favorite days of the year!
